  Reese watched Bobbi close the door and waited for the bolt to shoot home.

  The metallic sound rang through the air and he sighed with relief. Satisfied she was safe, he started the bike, the engine roaring to life, down into gear and pulled out of the parking lot in a spray of dirt. The back wheel fishtailed wildly but he rode the motion with ease and brought it under control. Opening the throttle, he aimed the bike into the night.

If he’d been anything other than what he was, he wouldn’t have been able to block both and would have taken some damage.

  “You could say that,” he replied, going on the attack.
